Every freelancer, consultant, or agency business knows they need to be on LinkedIn, that’s not the problem…
The problem is that most don’t know how to use LinkedIn to grow their businesses.
The worst offenders will pitch potential clients on the first connection request!
And they continue pitching, pitching, pitching. Even when nobody is listening on the other side.
Kind of like the Energizer bunny. They keep going and going and going.
They treat sales like a numbers game, yet these numbers never drop to the bottom line as profits. It’s just too salesy.
Decision makers like CEOs, Business Owners, and Managers are bombarded everyday with generic, salesy, and “me, me, me” messages.
Messages like the ones below, which I pulled from the hundreds of LinkedIn requests I get each month:
We all know when we’re being sold something
Notice how impersonal, generic, and “me” focused these messages are?
These people care only about one thing – themselves.
Smart CEOs, Business Owners, and Managers can sniff a selfish sales message a mile away.
Naturally, their reaction is not to reply.
No one wants to be pitched.
It’s like the aggressive used car salesman. Everybody avoids them.
But what if you’re not aggressive and just don’t know how to convert a business connection into a new client on LinkedIn?
What if your goal is to build genuine relationships that eventually convert into profitable client deals?
Client deals that you control the terms, price, and outcome.
Deals where you decide what price to charge because you don’t have to follow any rules from Gig Platforms where pricing is incentivized to be as low as possible.
The term I use for freelancers, consultants, or agency owners who are looking to work with a select few clients in a deep and meaningful way? Intropreneurs.
Intropreneurs are subject-matter experts with an entrepreneurial drive focused on providing the best service to a select number of clients who value their expertise. .
Intropreneurs care about building meaningful client relationships, even if they are introverts by nature.
How do you transition from a friendly conversation to a business conversation?
How do you build relationships on LinkedIn without coming off as a douchebag?
You need to balance building a new business relationship while also fulfilling your goal of generating new business. It’s tricky right?
If you don’t do it right, you lose a potential client.
But if you follow the right approach, you not only have a new client and more revenue, but a new meaningful connection.
